Conversational English Classes
Starting June 10th 2025

Group classes to practice conversational skills

When learning a new language, there are four skills to master: reading, writing, speaking and listening.

You may have been learning English since you were a child, so already know the basic grammar rules and can read and write at an intermediate level. However, becoming a confident speaker can be more difficult, and the reasons for this include:

  • You may not live in an English speaking country, so have very little opportunity to practice speaking English.

  • You may speak English at work, but not with your friends and family. You find social conversations more difficult and struggle to understand English phrases/idioms.

  • You may live in an English speaking country, but lack the confidence to speak English for fear of making mistakes. You might stay within your friendship group, who also speak your native language, rather than English.

If you would like to improve your conversational skills and learn English among other like-minded people, then these lessons are just for you. You can learn in a comfortable and relaxed space, which will build your confidence and help you to improve.

How will the lessons be taught?

Classes are delivered online, through the Zoom platform. There will be a maximum of six students in the group, and you will be able to talk to each other and hopefully make some new friends!

How long is each lesson?

Each session will be one hour long. The first 45 minutes will involve having conversations with other members of the class, and the final 15 minutes will be the teacher's feedback.

What will happen in each class?

You will be given a choice of topics to discuss, and in order to initiate conversations, you may be given something to read, or a video to watch.

For example: You could watch a video of children playing various games, and then be asked the question. How has childhood changed since you were younger?

While you are talking to each other, the teacher will be listening and interjecting where necessary. Teachers will take notes about any language problems heard, and will address them at the end of the lesson, or during the conversation (if that is beneficial). Sometimes, you will be put into breakout rooms, where you can talk about topics in pairs or threes. Later, you will come back to the main room and share your ideas or thoughts.

How much are the lessons?

Lessons are  £8.50 an hour. This can be paid via pay pal, through the Tutastic website or via a bank transfer. Payment must be made before before the lesson begins.

If you pay for 6 weeks in advance, they are only £8.00 per hour.

What level of English do I need to have?

It is recommended that you have a pre- intermediate to intermediate level of English at least. If you are a beginner, you will not understand the conversations and this will be frustrating to you. On the CEFR levelling framework, then this would be level B1 - B2. If you are a level A2, you could give the classes a try, but you may find them too difficult.
